Nomads contradict CEO on Madinga

Mighty Wanderers FC yesterday issued a statement contradicting their chief executive officer Panganeni Ndovi on the status of their midfielder Francisco Madinga whose contract expires next week.

Ndovi told The Nation  in an interview yesterday morning that Madinga is set to leave the club.

Madinga in action for Wanderers recently.

He said: “We agreed the terms [for contract renewal] and what remained was for him to sign.

“Of course, he asked for some time to explore other options, but this morning [yesterday] we got communication that he is moving on.

“So, we will respect his decision.”

But barely hours later, Wanderers released a statement  stating that they are engaged in discussions with the player “regarding possible contract renewal. These negotiations are ongoing and will be handled with utmost professionalism”.

The statement, signed by board secretary Chancy Gondwe, reads: “The club wishes to inform its supporters that midfielder Francisco Madinga is under valid contract with the club which will expire on 6th August 2025.

“The contract remains in full effect and binding on both parties until its stated expiry date.

“The club will make an official statement on the future status of Mr. Madinga at an appropriate time.”

The 25-year-old could not be reached for comment yesterday.

Madinga returned to Wanderers in 2023 after stints with Georgian outfit FC Dila and Botswana side Jwaneng Galaxy.

Meanwhile, another Wanderers key player Gaddie Chirwa has extended his contract by two years.

Ndovi confirmed that Chirwa, 27, has penned a new deal that runs from January 2026 to December 2027.
